Shusuke had lived with Kaku and the others for a while before, so he knew Kaku reasonably well.

Shusuke had initially wondered whether Kaku had lost his soul, but he had seen people without souls before. Most were like walking corpses, while the few who retained their consciousness were essentially no different from their usual selves, except that their bodies were weaker than other people's.

Kaku, however, retained all his memories and showed no physical weakness. He bore no resemblance whatsoever to the soulless people Shusuke had seen.

With that theory ruled out, there was another possibility.

After observing Kaku throughout the day, Shusuke had begun to wonder whether he had lost his capacity for emotion.

"Kaku," Shusuke asked, "let me ask you a few questions. When you went out to buy food today, did anything particularly memorable happen?"

Shusuke continued, "Second question: how did you feel when Enel was teasing Lin Mo just now?"

Kaku countered, "Does how I felt matter?"

"That depends on the person," Shusuke replied calmly. "When you attacked Enel just now, did you consider what would happen if he hadn't dodged and the fork you threw had hit and injured him?"

"If he couldn't even judge that much, it would only prove that's all he's capable of," Kaku said bluntly. "Even if he had been injured, he'd have had only himself to blame."

"I understand." Shusuke turned his gaze to Lin Mo and continued, "Lin Mo, you're the one who revived Kaku. No one here knows his condition better than you. What, are you still going to keep it from everyone?"

"Keep it from us?" Perona blinked. "Keep what from us?"

Enel stared silently at Lin Mo.
