Bulma shook her head.
"If it fails, what will happen to Xia Le?"
Gohan's voice trembled.
"He'll die!"
Bulma answered gravely.
Gohan's heart lurched, and he clenched his fists.
All three stared at the Healing Pod, silently praying that the modification would succeed and that Xia Le could hold on.
But a day passed, and on the computer connected to the Healing Pod, Xia Le's vital signs grew increasingly alarming.
"I tested his physical condition before. For an ordinary human, it really was impressive."
"But in certain respects, his innate traits weren't ideal. You could even call them weak."
Bulma sighed.
"But to become stronger, Xia Le was willing to undergo the Saiyan modification."
"He asked me to help him."
"In this apocalyptic age, I had no reason to refuse."
"Because one day, he'll face Android 17 and Android 18 again."
After a pause, Bulma looked at Gohan and Trunks.
"The same goes for us!"
"Only by becoming stronger, or developing the Time Machine, can we gain the power to change everything!"
"That's the ideal Xia Le is pursuing, and it's his hope for staying alive."
Taking a deep breath, Bulma clenched both fists and watched Xia Le's presence grow fainter inside the Healing Pod.
"All we can do is pray for him."
On the third day, Xia Le grew even weaker. But from outside the Healing Pod, they could clearly see a short, furry tail growing from his tailbone.
"That means the Saiyan cells are replacing or merging with his human cells."
"The genes of the two races are merging."
Bulma spoke, her eyes brightening slightly.
"Does that mean Xia Le might succeed?"
Trunks spoke excitedly.
Hearing this, Bulma carefully checked Xia Le's condition again, but her expression only grew grimmer.
"The Saiyan cells are devouring his life force."
