Ch. 461Onigashima's collapse
Key plot points and events
- Xia Le battles an alliance of powerful enemies on Onigashima, including Blackbeard, Shanks, Kaido, Big Mom, Mihawk, Saint Garling, and Saint Saturn. He realizes the fight is a direct threat to his survival.
- While fending off simultaneous attacks, Xia Le reveals the full scope of his abilities: three Devil Fruit powers—a Mythical Zoan Kunpeng, a Logia Rumble-Rumble, and a Paramecia Float-Float—combined with extraordinary Haki and physical strength.
- He raises a massive wall of earth to block the attackers. Using lightning, he blasts Big Mom off Onigashima and into the sea.
- Xia Le uses his control over the earth to drag Kaido down, crush him beneath a mountain, and strike him unconscious. He counts Kaido as the first enemy defeated.
- Mihawk cleaves through Xia Le’s barrier with a colossal slash, but Xia Le catches it with one hand. The remaining enemies then charge together, and Xia Le evades their attacks with his wings and speed.
Character developments and interactions
- Xia Le shifts from sheer aggression to deliberate, tactical fighting. He recognizes that losing would doom the Navy and vows to bring all ten thousand Marines home.
- Kaido demands a fair fight, but Xia Le rejects the plea as hypocritical and defeats him decisively.
- Blackbeard understands that his Dark-Dark Fruit makes him a particular target and treats the battle as a struggle for survival, though he remains eager to fight Xia Le.
- Shanks senses that Xia Le is even more formidable than at the Summit War and concludes that Xia Le had concealed his true strength before.
- Mihawk, Garling, Saturn, and the onlookers are shaken by Xia Le’s three Devil Fruits and near-impenetrable defense. Big Mom is driven out of the fight by Xia Le’s lightning strike.
Significant themes
- Overwhelming power and its limits: Xia Le appears nearly unstoppable, yet the number and caliber of his opponents keep him under severe pressure.
- Strategy over bravado: He survives by combining defense, battlefield control, and targeted attacks rather than simply charging forward.
- Responsibility and resolve: Xia Le’s determination is tied to protecting the Marines under his command, not merely winning for himself.
- Fairness and hypocrisy: Kaido’s demand for a fair fight is rejected because Xia Le views him as unqualified to make it.
