Amid the ruins, the D-rank, ninth-tier Bone Colossus Owl emerged completely from the spatial rift.
It opened its vast, stinking beak, and the black thunderstorm swirling around its hollow skeleton rushed toward its mouth.
At the heart of the lightning, a destructive magnetic field gathered—powerful enough to erase a city block a hundred meters wide.
"Captain! The lightning pressure's too strong! We can't get up!"
"Forget about me! Pour every last bit of your Star Ring magic into defense!"
"It won't hold! That owl's Magic Power Scale has to be past the detection limit of two thousand!"
"Shut up! Everyone, grip your Ship-Splitting Blades!"
The scar-faced captain's mouth was full of bloody foam. His eyes had turned red from burst blood vessels.
"Even if we die, we're scraping a layer of dust off those bones!"
The special-ops elites around him struggled to raise their weapons, bracing for the coming deluge of black lightning.
In the distance.
Atop the hundred-meter lightning rod of Xinghai Tower.
Ziwei rested a massive dark-gold scythe on one shoulder and looked down at the brutal battlefield below.
"Master, that bearded guy down there can't hold out much longer."
Kabi's plump spirit form hovered close beside Ziwei's cheek.
"I know."
Ziwei's voice was cool.
"His eighteen hundred units of magic are completely spent. Sheer willpower is the only thing keeping him on his feet."
"I know that too."
Ziwei reached into her pocket.
"Those two damned monsters are both closing in on the two-thousand-unit limit! Hurry up and set up the formation!"
Kabi tumbled through the air in agitation.
"I'll say this one last time! A high-grade Abyssal Core contains extremely pure energy. Its insides are practically liquid!"
"If you cut at the wrong angle and damage the core's shell even a little, its price gets slashed in half! Not a penny of that is negotiable!"
Ziwei didn't answer.
She pressed the star-shaped Beacon communicator at her ear.
Her cool, languid voice rang through the encrypted channel.
"Mint, Cherry, report your coordinates."
"Mint has reached the high ground in Riverside District! The wind's guidance was flawless!"
"Cherry has reached the Abandoned Water Tower Complex in the West District! Big Sister, the wind up on the tower is so strong tonight that I can't stop sneezing!"
"Keep your mouth shut."
Ziwei issued the order.
"Activate the anchors. Seal the Barrier."
"Mint copies! For the peace of the city!"
"Cherry obeys! No evil shall take a single step beyond its cage!"
The two young workers, thoroughly brainwashed into worshipping her, answered crisply over the channel.
Ziwei took a light step forward.
Her high-heeled boot left the tip of the lightning rod.
Gravity seized her at once.
She dropped straight from the top of Xinghai Tower, becoming a dazzling violet-gold meteor that plunged toward the pit below.
On the ground.
Xia Ning and Lin Guoguo, lying in wait at two distant positions, poured all their surging magic into their Beacons at the same time.
Two pink pillars of magic shot skyward.
High above, they wove together into a vast pink web of stars.
Then the web slammed down over the area with unstoppable weight.
A pink Starlight Barrier that blocked all physical attacks enveloped the entire ruined commercial district.
The instant the Barrier formed.
It cut off the contamination-laden thunderstorm spilling from the owl toward the rest of the city.
It also sheltered every surviving official at the bottom of the pit beneath the dome, leaving no one exposed.
The annihilating lightning slammed into the pink curtain of light.
It raised only a few transparent ripples across the curved surface.
Not a single spark pierced the shield sustained by sheer will.
Kneeling at the edge of the pit, the scar-faced captain stared with his mouth hanging open.
"That shield... has no Spirit-Breath Formation patterns supporting it?"
"A dome appeared out of nowhere without anyone inscribing Barrier Runes?"
He stared at the impossible defense, his decades of Demon Hunting knowledge shaken to the core.
And just as the destructive lightning struck and dissipated.
A brilliant violet-gold light descended from the sky.
Ziwei landed firmly in front of the scar-faced captain, blocking the heavy shadow cast by the monster overhead.
A fierce wind rose.
Her waist-length violet-gold hair streamed wildly through the air.
The hem of her ornate violet-gold lace dress snapped in the wind, gleaming with a dazzling, almost divine radiance.
The scar-faced captain looked up from the ground and finally saw the Savior who had appeared before him.
Women were rare enough on the brutal Demon-Hunting Frontline. One dressed like her was unheard of.
In her purple-black over-the-knee boots, Ziwei stood a striking one meter seventy tall.
Her mature figure was almost impossibly curvaceous.
Most conspicuous of all was the ample softness of her chest.
Its fullness pushed the intricate lace high, tracing a breathtaking curve.
As she landed, it swayed slightly with the motion.
Even the scar-faced captain, a rough man ready to die at any moment, stood there in a daze.
Ziwei didn't so much as glance back at the battered survivors.
She lifted her delicate chin slightly.
Her gaze pierced the pink dome and fixed on the two enormous Lord-Class prey in the sky.
It lingered longest on the Deep Space Giant Whale.
Its body was as vast as a floating mountain range, blotting out half the sky.
How big was that monster? Thousands of tons, at least. No pickup truck was hauling that away.
Above, the Bone Colossus Owl clearly took the Barrier's resistance as a challenge.
It would not tolerate lesser creatures interfering in its territory.
Deep-purple lightning flared again in its empty eye sockets, the two masses of thunderfire burning fiercer than before.
It spread its bony wings hundreds of meters wide.
A violent Deep Space Magnetic Storm spiraled downward toward the pink dome.
It meant to tear the Barrier and every creature inside it to pieces.
The piercing sonic booms from the spreading magnetic field made the special-ops agents below clamp their hands over their ears.
"That bird's furious!"
"Should we go up and help her?"
"Your Star Ring's been shattered! How are you supposed to help?"
The scar-faced captain braced himself on his blade and tried to stand, his anxious gaze fixed on her tall figure.
"She hasn't even deployed a Magic-Tool Formation. Is she just going to stand there? How can she meet a magnetic field that powerful?"
Ziwei deployed no elaborate formation.
The agents below didn't even see the telltale glow of magic gathering.
She merely frowned.
Disgust flashed in her eyes; the black lightning streaking across the sky was painfully bright.
With both hands, she raised the haft of her half-ton dark-gold scythe.
She planted one foot ahead of the other.
Then her waist snapped into the swing.
The exaggerated curves of her chest blurred violently with the movement.
She dispensed with magic incantations altogether.
One clean physical strike, driven by brute force alone.
The immense dark-gold blade swept through the air with the crushing weight of raw violence.
It was a basic attack, without the slightest technique.
The scythe, an embodiment of force itself, drew a violet-gold crescent through the air.
Its blade slammed straight into the black lightning storm bearing down on her.
From its very center, it split the near-limit magnetic field in two.
Lightning broke apart and spilled away on either side of the blade.
At last, it dissolved into harmless sparks and vanished into the air.
"She cut a thunderstorm apart with one swing?"
The scar-faced captain's Ship-Splitting Blade slipped from his hand.
"She didn't use any magic. The wind pressure from swinging that scythe was enough to wipe out a Lord-Class magnetic field?"
The agents behind him forgot to breathe.
The moment after the owl's attack was broken.
Above the clouds, the Deep Space Giant Whale finally dragged itself free of the rift.
It rolled its vast, hill-like belly.
Then, with the crushing force of its sheer mass.
Half its body fell from the sky and slammed into the highest point of the pink Starlight Barrier.
BOOM!
An unimaginable weight came crashing down.
Its immense mass bore down relentlessly on the dome of magic.
Even the pink Barrier, made to withstand any physical attack, could not bear such a brutal impact.
Violent, high-frequency ripples shuddered across its surface.
"It's too heavy!"
The sheltering agents stared at the trembling dome overhead.
"That pink light's going to collapse!"
Two pained cries came through the communicator in Ziwei's pocket at once.
"Mm... so heavy!"
That was Mint—Xia Ning.
"Cherry's arms are going to break! Big Sister, help!"
Lin Guoguo's wailing mingled with the howling wind.
Ziwei stood beneath the whale's massive underside.
"Keep your magic output steady. Don't disconnect."
Her reply was cold.
"One cut will bring it down. Hold on."
Ziwei spun the dark-gold scythe in both hands and drove force into her feet, preparing to launch herself skyward.
She would carve the mountain-sized, fat whale apart from its jaw up.
The haft had barely risen above her head.
When the situation above the Barrier changed.
Something strange appeared on the whale, which until then had merely been pressing its weight against the dome.
"What's that smell?"
The scar-faced captain clapped a hand over his nose and mouth.
"It reeks! Ten thousand times worse than a giant rotting corpse!"
