Background / History

Obito works to bring Naruto into the world earlier than he otherwise would have been, hoping to avert a crisis surrounding Kushina’s childbirth. Naruto grows up with Minato and Kushina present; Minato later takes care in choosing his son’s first shinobi team 29 51 123.

Minato assigns Naruto to Kakashi alongside Itachi and Kokoro. During their bell test, Naruto initially presses the attack with a Rasengan, but the students succeed only after they begin protecting one another and fighting as a team 123 125 126. Naruto later trains with Jiraiya 153.

Years later, Kakashi chooses Naruto over the unavailable Itachi as his successor. Naruto doubts whether he is ready, but accepts the Hokage title before the assembled villagers. He then proposes to Hinata in public 314. By Konoha Year 75, they have a newborn son, Boruto; as Hokage, Naruto also proposes merging the Anbu’s functions with the Military Police Force 315.

Naruto is sociable and mischievous. He teases Kokoro even when he could dodge her punches, strikes up a conversation with Izumi almost immediately, and trades insults with Sasuke while offering to train with him 125 181 298.

His bravado does not prevent him from helping others: as a child, he patiently escorts a crying girl home, and he offers to visit Itachi’s sick younger brother, Sasuke 123 127. He is also open about his ambitions, declaring as a child that he will become Hokage 275.
