Background / History

Kakashi is the son of Hatake Sakumo, the White Fang. At the Academy, his accuracy and fighting skill set him apart: he hits every target in a shuriken test and effortlessly disarms and evades Nagano Nami during a spar 3 4. When Sakumo's reputation comes under attack, Kakashi tells his father that Obito defended his actions, calling Obito “sort of my friend” 7.

After graduation, Kakashi joins Obito and Rin under Minato. He proposes their initial plan for Minato's bell test, and the three pass by coordinating their attacks 24 25 26. On the Kannabi Bridge mission, the newly promoted Kakashi leads the team. He abandons an unfinished Lightning Release attack after Minato and Obito warn him of the risk, then fights alongside Obito against an Iwagakure ambush 59 60. Following Obito's return from a later battle, Kakashi promises not to leave him behind again 69.

When Minato becomes Fourth Hokage and Team Minato disbands, Kakashi joins the Anbu under his direct command 97. He later becomes the jōnin instructor of Naruto, Itachi, and Kokoro, testing their teamwork with the same two-bell exercise Minato used on his own team 123 125 126. After his students graduate, Minato appoints him an assistant in the Hokage's office 223. Kakashi eventually takes over the Hokage's duties from Obito 298.

Personality

Kakashi begins as serious, aloof, and confident, speaking flatly during Team Minato's introductions and readily taking charge of the bell-test plan 25. He trains diligently and is frustrated when Obito's rapid growth leaves him behind; his pursuit of the Flying Thunder God Technique is driven partly by his wish to keep pace with his friend 52 75.

His reserve gives way to loyalty and familiar banter around his teammates. He reluctantly hosts Obito and Rin for a meal, later presses Obito to share the danger he has been hiding, and promises to bring him back if he loses his way 35 130 125. As an instructor, Kakashi is demanding about teamwork but holds back enough to let his students learn and succeed 125 126.
