Ch. 61Crisis, Escape
Plot points and events
- Obito kills Taiseki in a sudden exchange, startling Kakashi, Rin, and the nearby Iwa ninja Kakkō, who had been lying in wait.
- Kakkō tries to escape and alert his comrades, but Obito spots him. Kakkō attacks with Earth Release; Kakashi blocks the first assault while Obito counters with stone spears, wounding him.
- Kakkō reaches for a signal flare. Kakashi charges as Obito uses his powerful Lava Release to block escape routes. Though badly cornered, Kakkō fires the flare before falling beneath collapsing rock, successfully warning the enemy.
- Realizing their position is exposed and reinforcements may be coming, Kakashi orders the team to abandon the mission and retreat through the Bamboo Grove.
- They hear what may be pursuers closing in, then encounter another group ahead. Both sides recognize one another in surprise, but the chapter ends before revealing what happens next.

- Rin remains alert and ready to defend herself, while Obito instinctively shields her during the retreat.
- Kakkō is portrayed as resolute: despite facing certain death, he prioritizes warning his comrades.
