Background / History
Tang Can is the granddaughter of King Tang Yuan, whose Tang family is one of Great Ning’s three non-imperial royal houses. The family has served the dynasty since its founding and commands 300,000 elite cavalry directly under Emperor Ning’s authority. Emperor Ning personally granted Tang Can the title County Princess Shangyang, allowing her to meet the Emperor directly. She was reported to have reached the Soaring Realm at seventeen. 98

Tang Can first appears as the Vermillion Bird Battalion’s general during the aftermath of a major demon assault. Chen Xian identifies her from afar as one of the Demon-Slaying Armies’ three exceptional young geniuses. 64
She recruited Chen Xian for the expedition against the Fire Feather Eagle Emperor after judging him calm, steady, and capable of fighting a Great Demon King. 80 81 During the battle, she used the Golden-Faced Yama to wound the Emperor but was injured and nearly killed when the demon beast retaliated.
