Ch. 21Chapter Thirteen: A Prophetic Dream?
Summary
Zhou Yuang continues his livestream while training Silence Suzuka in the Uma Musume game. He jokes that he does not want “stupid Uma Musume,” clarifying that he means he prefers trainees with strong intelligence stats. His blunt comment causes the viewers and nearby Uma Musume to accuse him of discrimination and arrogance. Air Groove worries that a trainer like him might mistreat less capable Uma Musume, while a black-haired Uma Musume imagines the womanizing trainer pursuing her intelligent sisters and turning her family into a chaotic “paradise” for his romantic ambitions.
Zhou Yuang then singles out Special Week as an example of someone lacking practical sense, teasing her for eagerly acting as an assistant and helping seniors even when it inconveniences her. Baye challenges him for criticizing a volunteer helper, and Godolphin silently gives him a knowing look. Uncomfortable under their scrutiny, Zhou Yuang quickly redirects attention to the livestream and begins a race with Silence Suzuka.
To obtain Silence Suzuka’s Front Runner skill, Zhou Yuang must have her win six consecutive major races. He enters a Mile G2 race after checking the predicted evaluations, which show Silence Suzuka with a decisive advantage. During the race selection, Rudolf appears as a randomly generated NPC in a performance outfit. The viewers react with alarm at seeing the “invincible president,” but Zhou Yuang explains that this is only a low-stat game character using Rudolf’s appearance, not the real Rudolf. Silence Suzuka wins easily, and Zhou Yuang resumes her training.
The perspective then abruptly changes into a hazy, memory-like scene surrounded by a white border. Silence Suzuka appears in the arena passageway and tells the trainer she is ready. Zhou Yuang realizes this is a scripted memory or dream sequence because he cannot control the scene and is forced to select dialogue. Silence Suzuka calmly says she is going, and Zhou Yuang wishes her luck in the Tenno Sho. The chapter ends by suggesting that this vision may foreshadow an important event involving Silence Suzuka.
Character developments and interactions
- Zhou Yuang presents himself as an irreverent, unapologetic trainer who enjoys provoking both viewers and Uma Musume, though he is more defensive than genuinely cruel.
- Special Week is portrayed as earnest, helpful, and somewhat lacking in practical judgment; Zhou’s teasing exposes the affectionate but chaotic dynamic surrounding her.
- Baye directly confronts Zhou Yuang over his treatment of Special Week, showing that she is kind but willing to challenge him.
- Godolphin silently pressures Zhou Yuang with an expressive look, demonstrating that his teasing often collapses when the Uma Musume respond seriously.
- Rudolf appears indirectly as an NPC, while the real Rudolf reacts with amused resignation to the strange game representation.
- Silence Suzuka remains focused and determined, appearing confident before the race and in the mysterious final scene.
Significant themes
- The gap between game mechanics and reality: NPC versions of familiar Uma Musume are distinct from the real individuals, creating humorous but unsettling situations.
- Trainer responsibility and morality: Zhou Yuang’s jokes about intelligence, favoritism, and romance raise concerns about how he treats the Uma Musume under his care.
- Public performance and reputation: His livestream persona is deliberately provocative, forcing him to balance entertainment with the reactions of those around him.
- Foreshadowing and fate: The dreamlike final sequence hints at a significant future race or event, likely connected to Silence Suzuka and the Tenno Sho.
