As far as Dian knew, Charmander had two possible Abilities. One was the common Blaze, which strengthened Fire-type moves the more dire the situation became.

The other was Solar Power, an Ability that increased its power under Sunny Day or intense sunlight, but also caused that power to harm its own body and drain its stamina.

Besides, although every Pokémon had an Ability, not every Pokémon would ultimately awaken it.

Before an Ability awakened, it was effectively no different from having none.

"Roaaar!"

The moment Charmander appeared, it let out a loud roar and spat a few sparks. Its orange tail swished back and forth as it looked disdainfully at the comparatively petite Hoppip.

Clearly, the difference in size, coupled with its type advantage, made this Charmander believe the outcome was already decided.

"Heh heh, hahaha! Scared now? Begging won't help. I'll make sure you get a good taste of despair."

Kidney-Deficient Youth burst into arrogant laughter.

The smile vanished from Dian's lips, leaving his face expressionless. Despair? Don't worry. After this battle, I'll show you what despair really means.

"Charmander, don't hold back! Use Flamethrower at full power!"

Kidney-Deficient Youth opened with a powerful move. All he wanted now was to avenge his earlier humiliation, and the sooner, the better.

At the command, Charmander's eyes instantly turned fierce. It threw its head back and spewed a thick stream of fire.

Rolling waves of heat evaporated the moisture glistening on the nearby leaves and branches. Fortunately, the ground beneath them was bare earth. If they destroyed the garden, neither of them would get off lightly.

Dian's eyes flickered as he drew on his earlier assessment. "Hoppip, use Fairy Wind beneath your feet and jump!"

An invisible gust struck the ground, then swiftly burst outward, briefly holding back the spreading heat.
