"What is your wish?" the voice asked sweetly.
A faint smile tugged at Dian's lips. "My wish? Well, there's someone I care about."
"Oh, really?" The sweet voice seemed to drift down from the sky.
Dian leaned back against the tree behind him, his expression unchanged as his fingers tapped the concrete ledge. "Mm, no matter what, I want to..." He rubbed his face as though embarrassed. "I want us to grow closer."
The owner of the voice fell silent for a moment, then spoke even more softly. "Do you like her?"
Dian's smile grew brighter. Realizing something, he reined it in and stammered like an innocent boy instead. "Would I call it liking her... or... hmm... yes, I want to get to know her more deeply."
A sigh sounded beneath the tree, followed by a figure stepping into view. Despite the light makeup on her delicate, lovely face, traces of fatigue still showed. Her long golden hair shimmered in the sunlight, and her deep blue eyes were unfathomable, giving no hint of what she was thinking.
Yue Jifei brushed the hair on her shoulder with a fair hand. Her voice was icy, a world apart from its earlier seductive sweetness. "Dian... it's been a while. I can't believe you could say something that chilling."
"Not a call, not a text all this time. I honestly jumped when you called. It was like someone coming back from the dead."
Yue Jifei narrowed her eyes and smiled. "So, what are you after?"
Dian laced his hands beneath his chin and answered with a smile, utterly serious. "Didn't I just say? I want to get to know you more deeply."
Yue Jifei's left hand, which had been playing with the hair on her shoulder, abruptly dropped before she hurriedly put it back.
