Come to think of it, this Zubat really was tiny. She barely weighed anything when she perched on Dian's shoulder.
And she seemed even better behaved than he had imagined. Compared with Miss Misdreavus, she was practically a little angel.
How strange.
Dian had no idea that the Little Queen Zubat's reasoning was simple. She was a newcomer, so of course she had to behave herself. Otherwise, wouldn't she get bullied?
She might never have traveled far or seen much of the world, but she had seen plenty of this sort of thing in the cave.
When a new individual joined a group, they would be driven out unless they worked harder than the other members. Only after fitting in could they enjoy a better life.
Just look at what she had been eating lately. That had to be how it worked.
Whether she was naive or crafty was hard to say, but the Little Queen Zubat had no idea that even if she showed her prickly, proud side, her meals would stay exactly the same.
Dian took feeding his Pokémon very seriously. If they had not been out in the wild, he would have gone straight off to prepare her Special Pokéblocks.
Misdreavus watched Zubat scout their surroundings without diverting any attention to keeping her safe. She knew Beedrill would handle that. Her own priority was protecting her Trainer.
Beedrill beat his wings silently in midair. He appeared to be hovering in place, but he had already quietly used Agility, ready to support Zubat at any moment.
After meticulously inspecting every corner, Zubat flew back and shook her head at Dian. Then she flew over to the stone tablet and cried out at it.
Dian glanced at the tablet. Sure enough, that was where the problem lay.
He sighed.
