The organizers had marked out a stretch of coastline where contestants could put their fishing skills to the test.
Contestants could use only the fishing rods, bait, and Poké Balls provided by the organizers.
They could also bring just one partner Pokémon to help them catch whatever they hooked.
And since each contestant received only one special Poké Ball,
they had just one chance to make a catch.
If they failed, they were automatically disqualified.
Contestants who succeeded had to hand their catch over to the organizers.
The invited judge would then assess and score the Pokémon's rarity and development.
The contestant with the highest score would win the Fishing Competition.
