The two of them soon left the area around the Ye Family villa.
The rest of the Ye Family stood in the living room, at a loss.
None of them knew why they felt so uneasy. The room had suddenly gone frighteningly quiet—except for Ye Qing.
Seeing that no one had spoken for a while, Ye Qing figured his family was still angry with Ye Chen. But he found it strange. His parents weren't the sort to tear a couple apart, and this time, even his eldest brother had joined in.
Ye Qing spoke up. "Dad, Mom, do you think Second Brother's friend is a bad person?"
That was the only explanation. Otherwise, his family wouldn't act like this.
[But I saw it for myself. How did Dad and Mom know?]
Hearing Ye Qing's question, Ye Mother sighed. "When your second brother said he was bringing someone home, we were happy."
"Even if it was a boy, as long as your second brother liked him, we'd accept him. We're not unreasonable."
"But the moment we met him, we got the feeling that boy wasn't as simple as he seemed."
"Of course, first impressions can be wrong. We can't claim we're always good judges of character."
"But later, during our conversation, we barely said anything, yet he looked so pitiful, as if we were bullying him."
"Your second brother is too oblivious to notice, but those tricks won't fool me."
What, did he think I'd never met someone who played the innocent? I met plenty when I was young.
"We were worried, so we had your eldest brother look into him. The results were good—too good. That was what felt wrong."
"The report didn't match the person we'd met at all. And because we needed it quickly, much of it only covered what was on the surface. There's plenty of room to manipulate that."
"Then we found out they weren't even together. It looked like your second brother's feelings were one-sided, and the reason he'd brought him home was to borrow money. How could we not worry?"
Ye Mother had talked herself tired. She took a sip of water from the table, and Ye Father continued, "We hadn't planned to settle this today, but then your second brother overheard us. You know what his temper is like..."
Ye Qing nodded. So that was how things had ended up like this.
[I don't know whether what I saw was real, but I trust Mom, Dad, and Eldest Brother's judgment.]
The other three smiled faintly. Sure enough, their youngest son and little brother was more willing to listen than Ye Chen.
Thinking of what he had seen, Ye Qing asked uncertainly, "Are you really not going to give Second Brother any money?"
"No. I said I wouldn't, and I meant it," Ye Father said.
"Neither will I. I'll tell the company not to transfer any money to Ye Chen," Ye Ci added.
[Okay, that's a relief. If what I saw was real, Second Brother probably won't last long.]
[Oh, Xia Zhe is going to a hotel to see his boyfriend this Saturday. I've forgotten which hotel it was.]
[Those words were too small. I didn't remember the name.]
The Ye Family members appeared to be going about their own business, but each secretly watched Ye Qing from the corner of their eye.
For once, they all had the same thought: Come on, remember!!!
Ye Chen was family, but who didn't love a bit of gossip?
And gossip about their own family was even more entertaining. Ye Chen really had been too foolish this time.
[Ugh, I can't remember. This is driving me crazy.]
We can't hear the answer, and it's driving us crazy too!!! the rest of the family thought.
"But shouldn't you be with the production crew? Why are you home?"
Ye Qing grinned at Ye Mother. "Heh, that fell through again."
Ye Mother looked at him in exasperation. "Honestly, you. I told you to sign with our own company, but you insisted on making your own way."
"Did you think breaking into the entertainment industry would be easy?"
Ye Qing gave her an apologetic smile. "I know it isn't easy. I just wanted to try."
Ye Ci was even more direct. He picked up his phone to call his assistant, but Ye Qing hurried to stop him. "Eldest Brother, please. There's really no need."
Ye Ci frowned. "So you're just going to let them push you around?"
"No, no. I didn't like that role much in the first place. I only took it because Sister Li said it suited me."
"It's fine that I lost it. Now I can come home and spend time with you."
When they still looked unconvinced, Ye Qing went on, "Besides, the people at my company are good to me. They'll handle it."
"Really, you have to trust me. When have I ever let anyone bully me?"
At that, they let the matter drop. Ye Qing had never been one to suffer in silence.
After Ye Qing went upstairs to rest, the rest of the family gathered together.
Ye Ci asked hesitantly, "Dad, Mom, did you hear..."
He didn't finish, but they knew what he meant.
"So we can all hear Xiaoqing's thoughts. Is it just us, or can other people hear them too?"
"Probably just us," Ye Mother said. "If everyone could hear them, Xia Zhe wouldn't have acted the way he did."
"Should we tell Xiaoqing?" Ye Father asked.
Silence followed. At last, Ye Ci said, "Better not. It would be awkward for him to know. We don't even know when it'll stop."
"Could this affect Xiaoqing's health?" Ye Mother asked.
"Probably not. If something were wrong, Xiaoqing would tell us," Ye Father replied.
Ye Father continued, "Ye Ci, keep an eye on your brother over the next few days. Tell us right away if anything seems wrong."
"I will."
[Oh, I remember! The hotel was called Jiangchong Hotel. I'll have to go there on Saturday. But how do I get Second Brother to come?]
Back in his room, Ye Qing was fascinated by his new ability. He couldn't understand why he had it.
Still, it seemed pretty useful. Didn't it mean he could uncover all sorts of gossip?
Then again, did that count as invading other people's privacy? By "other people," he meant ordinary people.
After thinking about it for a long time, Ye Qing decided not to dwell on it. The ability had appeared out of nowhere; he hadn't asked for it.
Once he'd settled that, he tried to recall what he had seen. For his second brother's sake, he had to remember the hotel's name.
Luckily, he remembered it in the end.
After taking Xia Zhe to his place, Ye Chen got to work. He was a professional race car driver; he simply had no races these past few days.
The club paid him a monthly salary. He had never thought much of it before, but now it was a huge help. After all, he was ten million in debt.
All in all, life with Xia Zhe was going well. But every time he remembered what Ye Qing had said, he felt uneasy.
He told himself to trust Xia Zhe, yet Ye Qing's words kept coming back to him.
Before long, the Saturday everyone had been waiting for arrived.
