Watering Himself

Gavin stood in his Consciousness Space, watching the bankless River surge silently beneath his feet.

According to Mr. Rowle's Diary, watering himself required him to "scoop up River water and pour it over both eyes."

The steps were clear, but they left out one practical question—

How was he supposed to scoop it up?

What was he supposed to use?

There was no spoon in the Inner Landscape, no cup, no tool of any kind.

It was an empty space. Apart from two whirlpools and a great River, nothing existed here.

He could reach in and scoop it up with his hands—

But he still remembered what it had felt like to be assimilated last time.

If his whole body sank in, the boundaries of his consciousness would be washed away. That would be little different from suicide.

He stood beside the River for a long time, thinking.

Then something occurred to him: when he had used the Philosopher's Stone, Magic had entered this space.

Which meant—

Could Magic affect the Consciousness Space?

Could he actually use magic here?

The idea was absurd, but based on his past experience, Gavin thought it would probably work.

According to his current reasoning and speculation, Magic was another kind of force that existed in the world.

It was an unusual force, not entirely bound to the material world, but influenced by something on the level of the mind.

Gavin had already learned that many forms of magic needed emotion to trigger them.

Magic could even affect something as intangible as the soul.

So it made sense that it could work inside the Consciousness Space, didn't it?

With that in mind, Gavin considered which Spell to use.

It had to be very simple and relatively safe, with room for fine control.
