Ever since Gavin confirmed he could occasionally see magic, he had been looking for chances to watch spells being cast.
More precisely, he had been following people around to watch them cast spells.
He had tried watching himself cast spells.
But that hadn't worked.
Those faint white lines almost never appeared around him. At least, he hadn't seen them yet.
So he had turned his attention to other people.
If someone used Aguamenti to wash their hands in the corridor, he would stop and watch.
If someone used the Summoning Charm to fetch a candy jar in the Common Room, he would stare for a while too.
He had even stopped for two seconds to watch a second-year Hufflepuff girl use the Levitation Charm to retrieve a quill she'd dropped under a table.
Academically, it might have made sense. As behavior, it looked suspicious.
Especially since, from Cordelia's perspective, everyone he'd been watching lately seemed to be a girl.
He looked like a stalker.
Finally, Cordelia couldn't take it anymore.
That afternoon, she stood at a corridor corner and watched Gavin for a long time, her expression conflicted.
Cordelia thought she had put too much pressure on Gavin and he'd finally developed some kind of mental problem.
Did Gavin care that much about what she thought?
At last, she spoke up, worried.
"Gavin, I believe you. You don't have to keep looking at other girls."
"What?" Gavin had been watching a girl wash her hands with Aguamenti and didn't understand at first.
"I don't doubt your... um... orientation anymore." Cordelia blushed a little. "You don't need to prove anything."
"..."
Gavin finally looked away. He glanced at Cordelia and the red tips of her ears, his mouth twitching.
