Judging by the handwriting, Professor Riddle might have written them himself—though Will wondered how he had managed it. He had not fully returned to life, yet he could write so smoothly in that black-mist state. His command of magic was remarkable.

"So the professor is pleased with me, and he sent you back to assist me?" Will had made himself clear in his letter: if Voldemort was willing to give him Peter as a stepping stone, he should send word.

He had not expected his professor to be so decisive. He had sent Peter straight back.

"Y-yes, Lord Behrens." Peter cowered. He was terrified, especially after the Dark Lord had used Legilimency on him. He feared his cowardice might have displeased him.

At the time, Peter had thought he might be killed on the spot. Fortunately, the Dark Lord seemed satisfied enough. Rather than take his life, he had told Peter he had a "very important" task for him.

Then he had sent Peter back to "assist the Dark Lord's disciple."

"Gryffindor and Slytherin have a Quidditch match in three days. Find a time to go back. I'll keep an eye on Lupin, but you need to stay alert too. Don't let your guard down." Will was distracted—he had something to do tonight.

"Lord Behrens... I..."

"Enough. Lupin will have other troubles to deal with soon, so he won't have time for you. Relax." Will cut Peter off.

"Really?" Peter breathed a sigh of relief.

"Of course. I need to study now. You can go." Will waved him away.
