Will stopped short. Professor McGonagall wasn't about to ask why I hadn't joined the brawl, was she?
Whatever the reason, he couldn't ignore her summons. He asked Sylvia to wait a moment, then hurried over to Harry and Cedric.
Fortunately, Professor McGonagall wasn't as mischievous as Old Dumbledore. She had called the three of them over for something else.
"Will, it looks like you've found a date for Christmas?" Professor McGonagall smiled.
Will nodded. "Yes, Professor."
"Harry, it seems you're the only one of the three Champions who hasn't found a date yet." Harry looked embarrassed.
"Never mind that, Harry. I'm not here to talk about dates," Professor McGonagall said. "I'm here about the Second Task."
Harry and Cedric immediately perked up, waiting intently for her instructions.
Professor McGonagall didn't tell them outright. Instead, she asked, "You just fought those Durmstrang students because they thought our students were 'spying on Krum's training.' What was Krum training for? Why did he need to go into the Black Lake?"
Harry and Cedric thought it over. Will looked thoughtful too.
It was obvious enough. Karkaroff had probably leaked information about the competition. The man had never had much integrity.
The Second Task... the Black Lake... Harry pondered.
"Could the Second Task have something to do with water?" Harry asked.
"They're not going to hold it in the Black Lake, are they?" Cedric scratched his head.
Professor McGonagall smiled. "I wouldn't know. I'm not a judge, after all. Strictly speaking, Durmstrang's Champion shouldn't know anything about the Second Task. Perhaps Krum was training because Bulgarians enjoy winter swimming."
"But you—" Harry began. Cedric tugged at him.
Harry saw the look Cedric and Will gave him. It practically said, Don't ask, mate. Don't be an idiot.
Then it dawned on him. "Oh—"
Professor McGonagall's smile
