Students could only go in and browse after obtaining permission signed by a teacher—of course, Madam Pince would watch them from nearby to make sure they neither tore out any pages nor got eaten by certain forbidden books.
However, the current Restricted Section was different from the one Will knew. In this era, it was properly sealed off in a separate room, and entering it required a key.
