The Scottish Highlands had a temperate oceanic climate: mild, damp, and changeable year-round, with little extreme weather. June brought heavier rain and frequent showers.
Snape came to take Will back to school. That made sense: Will was a Slytherin student, and Snape was Slytherin's Head of House.
Will had no idea Professor Flitwick had wanted to come for him, only to be flatly turned down by Snape.
Snape took Will to Hogsmeade by Apparition, then they headed back to school. Apparition wasn't allowed inside Hogwarts.
Rain poured down in Hogsmeade. Snape and Will each conjured an umbrella and opened it, though they had both cast waterproofing charms on themselves and weren't particularly afraid of getting wet.
Will stepped onto the cobbled road and took several deep breaths. The fresh air carried a faint earthy smell, and he felt at ease. It had been a long time since he'd felt this relaxed.
But ever since they had returned to Hogwarts, Will had sensed that Snape was unhappy.
"It seems you've broken yet another Ministry of Magic law, our Grand Wizard Behrens." There was a note of displeasure in Snape's voice.
Will paused. Right. Now he knew why Snape was unhappy.
Snape meant Apparition. Only students who had turned seventeen could enroll in the course, and after the school exams, they could take the Ministry of Magic's Apparition test.
Those who passed received a license to use Apparition.
Will clearly had no such license, yet he was already proficient at it.
"Professor, it isn't that difficult, is it?"
"Yes," Snape said, sounding as though he was about to call on Harry in Potions Class. "For Grand Wizard Behrens, of course it isn't difficult.
"After all, it's merely a dangerous form of magic that can leave you in pieces while you're learning it
