After Umbridge was driven away, the students continued their lesson.
Lupin's class returned to normal. In this lesson, he attacked the students with simple offensive spells, minor jinxes, and Dark Magic, while they did their best to protect themselves.
They could use Protego to block the attacks directly, Transfiguration to put something in the way, or their own agility to dodge.

"Will, would you give everyone a demonstration?"
Will's demonstration with Lupin was straightforward. Apart from a few jinxes, Lupin did not use any particularly dangerous Dark Magic.
"Stupefy!"
Lupin opened fast.
Will swept his Wand, and a sheet of earth rose to block the attack.
"Very good. As you can see, Will used Transfiguration. That's an excellent way to respond. Used flexibly, Transfiguration can be a great help in a fight. Don't always stick rigidly to what you've learned in class. Remember, Professor Dumbledore is a master of Transfiguration. Tarantallegra!"
Lupin fired another spell as he spoke.
"Protego!" Will immediately swung his Wand.
"A perfect demonstration! Did you see how quickly Will cast that?" Lupin said happily. "Everyone, one of your main tasks from now on is to practice Protego. You also need to prepare for your O.W.L.s. Petrificus Totalus! Tarantallegra!"
The spells shot toward Will, only to vanish in midair.
