First, Will needed to clear their memories completely of the Cruciatus Curse.

He cast a Sleep Charm and a Felix Charm on each of them, then cast a Felix Charm on himself.

Only then did Will press his Wand to Frank's chest. He needed to examine Frank and Alice first. A Wizard, after all, was a trinity of soul, body, and Magic.

A few minutes later, Will finished an initial examination. Both were in reasonably good physical health. He nodded to himself. St. Mungo's had managed that much, at least.

Now came the treatment itself. Will pressed his Wand to Frank's head.

As Will used Legilimency, Frank's memories appeared before him again. They were badly damaged—

The memories of the Cruciatus Curse had not been fully removed, and long stretches of everything else were still in disarray.

Will felt a headache coming on. Sorting Frank's memories alone would take considerable time. Fortunately, he had learned a great deal from Lockhart and had at least begun to grasp memory adjustment.

"Obliviate..." Will cast the Memory Charm on Frank.

But as he began clearing the memories, he noticed something wrong. Removing some of Frank's memories was like scraping away barnacles.

They resisted removal, always leaving some trace behind. Will could tell that forcing them out would damage normal memories as well. Perhaps that was why the Healers at St. Mungo's had not dared to clear them.

It would have been a problem for Muggles and ordinary Wizards. For Will, it was only a minor obstacle.

He activated Magic Amplification. The Memory Charm surged like a high-pressure jet, shattering those memories completely. His precise control left the others untouched.

Then Will began reorganizing Frank's memories using the method Lockhart had taught him. Wherever the pieces could not be made to fit, he created
