Yaxley happily followed Elmsworth to his family's secret chamber.
But the moment he saw the family heirloom, disappointment hit him. It was a roll of parchment detailing how to make an Invisibility Cloak.
It covered everything from treating Demiguise fur to concealment charms and a few spells passed down through the family.
Something else did surprise him, though. In another room used for keeping animals, he found two enormous cages.
Something inside kept making strange cries. "Awooo!"
Apples, bananas, and other food floated around inside, occasionally losing huge chunks to unseen bites.
"You're breeding Demiguises?" Yaxley was stunned—not by the Elmsworth family's illegal activities, but by the fact that they had managed to catch Demiguises at all.
He soon shrugged it off. He wasn't here to investigate poachers.
"Yes," Elmsworth said. "Our family has a few special methods that improve our chances of catching Demiguises, so—"
Yaxley cut him off. "Does your family have any other treasures?
"An Invisibility Cloak handed down from ancient times, perhaps? One that works forever and never wears out."
"My lord," Elmsworth answered, "Invisibility Cloaks wear down over time. They lose their effect, become opaque, develop tears, and eventually fall apart.
"And a powerful Wizard might even break an Invisibility Cloak's concealment with a revealing charm.
"The sort of Invisibility Cloak you're describing only exists in fairy tales. Have you been reading too much of The Tales of Beedle the Bard?"
Thanks to the Veritaserum, he had no filter. Yaxley frowned. "Cruciatus Curse!"
Elmsworth collapsed to the floor, howling. The other members of his family nearby trembled with fear.
Apparently satisfied, Yaxley snorted. "Take every Invisibility Cloak they have! We're leaving!
"As for you, I'll give you time to turn those Demiguises into Invisibility Cloaks. Deliver them to the Number One Shop in Knockturn Alley
