"Great Master." Lucius Malfoy hurried in.

Voldemort spoke coolly. "How are the wizards from abroad?"

"Hmm..." Lucius considered for a moment. "Most have been put up in several inns in Knockturn Alley.

"But they're not very disciplined. Many keep clashing with others. Some even demanded to see you in person and caused quite a disturbance, but the Patrol suppressed them."

"Hold a Selection Trial. Pick out the best of these newcomers. Anyone who passes can join the Death Eaters," Voldemort said.

"Yes, Master. I'll arrange it at once."

"No. One more thing." Voldemort stopped Lucius and looked him up and down. "Are you in a hurry to leave?"

"I..." Lucius recovered quickly. "I only want to carry out your orders as soon as possible! Your wishes are my purpose, and your commands are my will!"

Flattery worked where nothing else did. Voldemort merely gave a cold snort and did not punish Lucius.

He continued, "Go to Caractacus Burke and bring back some powerful cursed magical objects. Do it quickly. Selecting recruits can wait."

Caractacus Burke was the owner of Borgin and Burkes.

Lucius nodded. "I'll complete the task for you as quickly as possible."

Voldemort waved a hand. "Go."

Only then did Lucius take his leave.

Once the door closed, Voldemort turned back to his book. Lately, he had spent most of his time studying.

He had thought his resurrection would see him reign supreme, an unrivaled king. Instead, he was confined to one corner and faced pressure from both Dumbledore and Scrimgeour.
