The conversation went smoothly enough. After all, it wasn't the first time the two had talked.

Will thought for a moment, then asked Dumbledore, "By the way, Professor, Lockhart..."

"He has nothing to do with Voldemort. He's simply a wizard who lost himself in the pursuit of fame and fortune. Lockhart isn't bad at heart; Harry will learn quite a bit from him." Dumbledore tugged at his fishing rod. "He may not be a qualified professor, but he can still teach everyone something."

Will thought about what Lockhart had done. Stealing other people's life stories was bad enough. In the Chamber of Secrets, he would try to erase Harry's and Ron's memories. He was clearly no good man.

"All right, Professor. Maybe." Will didn't want to argue with Dumbledore about it. He didn't have enough evidence yet, and it looked as though he'd have to find someone else to serve as his test subject. He'd always thought Ron's rat Scabbers would do nicely.

"Will, there's one more thing I'd like your help with."

"Go ahead." Will couldn't imagine what the most powerful wizard of their time needed his help with.

"If Voldemort returns one day, I'd like you to help Harry."

"You trust me that much?"

"Of course. Many people may not understand what your potential means yet, but I do." Dumbledore's words took Will by surprise.

"Sure, if I'm ever in a position to get involved."

"You're already involved, aren't you?"

"Looks like I don't have a choice." Will smiled. He didn't mind. He knew what Dumbledore meant: he still had the notebook Voldemort had given him in his first year.

Voldemort had also had Lucius deliver the diary to him. From what Will had seen recently, Voldemort and the Tom inside the diary hadn't compared notes yet. Will
