The Sorting Hat's Dissatisfaction
However, after converting several Wizard that night, Will conducted another experiment.
Inside the High Tower Laboratory, the test subject had been placed on the Experimental Table. This guy had been pulled out of bed by Will in the middle of the night and was now trembling with fear, looking like he was almost scared to death.
He kept begging for mercy.
"Don't tremble," Will said calmly. "Your crime is, in fact, a capital offense, but I'm giving you a chance to participate in a great research project."
The Dark Wizard's face contorted slightly. "I... can I refuse?"
"No," Will answered quickly, "But I can try my best to keep you alive to see the results; after all, you're still useful."
He snapped his Finger Snap: "Snap!"
An arc of light flashed, and the Dark Wizard's right forearm was severed at the shoulder. Before the blood could even spurt out, his flesh began to writhe and seal the blood.
The Dark Wizard let out a bloodcurdling scream and fainted.
Will skillfully used the Bone-Growing Curse to reconstruct the bones in his forearm.
Limb regeneration is not a difficult thing in the Wizard world. As long as it is treated in time, most wounds can heal on their own. Of course, if the soul and Magic structure are gone, that's another matter.
Will used Flesh-Stitching Curse... even though the flesh was pulled from the Dark Wizard's legs.
The Flesh-Stitching Curse spread across the Dark Wizard's wound, the dark red curse light like countless needles and threads, piercing between the skin and flesh, the flesh beginning to glue itself together as if it were being held together by adhesive.
Soon, an arm took shape.
It looks similar to my right arm, except the skin looks a bit off.
Will scanned it with his Wizard Sight, and the answer was as he expected: the arm was alive, but it was "empty," meaning it had no Magic structure or soul.
Will wasn't surprised; he simply brought over the Werewolf and had it bite the Dark Wizard.
The Werewolf Venom Magic quickly infected the creature's entire body, including its soulless arm.
The Dark Wizard's body swelled and twisted, black hair gushed from his pores, his back arched, his fingernails turned into sharp claws, his head elongated, his snout protruded, and his fangs crossed, transforming him into Werewolf.
At that very moment, the soulless arm also changed, and Will's gaze became fixed on it.
The newborn arm was also swelling and Transfiguration, the finger bones were elongating, the flesh was writhing, and wolf hair was sprouting one by one—but compared with the thick, coarse hair on the main body, the hair on this arm was pitifully short, only a thin layer, like goosebumps on a human arm, or like wearing an ill-fitting sweater.
Will, whose Wizard Sight had remained open, suddenly narrowed his eyes. "It's appeared."
He saw the Magic structure.
In the Wizard Sight, the outline of Magic structure was emerging from the inside of that soulless arm.
The Werewolf Venom that originally brought disaster is now like a farmer cultivating wasteland, carving out a Magic structure on the "wasteland" where there was no Magic structure.
Although there is no soul, according to the theory of the Trinity, the soul in this place can be slowly restored.
Will's remaining task was to observe the guy's condition...
As time went by, the professors noticed something— Will started skipping classes.
This is a big deal. Over the years, Will has almost never missed a class, and even when he does miss one, it's usually because he has something important to do.
For example, doing research, writing important papers, or simply having to rest because of an injury sustained while conducting research.
However, recently, Will has been frequently skipping classes.
However, the professors didn't force Will to return to class—no one thought Will needed to study sixth-grade material.
Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, Professor Snape, Professor Slughorn all confirmed that Will didn't need to take those courses at all.
Professor Babbling didn't care at all— Will was now an authority in the field of Ancient Runes.
Hagrid might offer a few words of advice, but he wouldn't say much, since Will had really helped him a lot.
So Will became a "free man," and over time, his friends found out.
"I really envy Will," Ron sighed during dinner. "He doesn't have to go to these troublesome classes every day, and he doesn't have to do homework."
"If you're half as good as Will, the professors will allow you to skip homework."
Hermione glanced at Ron.
"This, this is different..."
"Oh, that's true," Hermione nodded. "Will's birthday is in May, and yours is in March. You're two months older Will, but in terms of academic level..."
"You—" Ron's face flushed red, but he couldn't refute it. He turned his head away and stopped talking to Hermione. After a while, he nudged Harry's arm. "Harry, what's wrong with you lately? Why haven't you said a word?"
Harry shook his head in silence.
Ron was about to say something more when Hermione stomped on his foot under the table.
"Harry," Hermione softened her voice, "if anything happens to you—"
"I'm fine." Harry shook his head again.
Ron opened his mouth, but in the end he just said "Oh" and turned back to gnaw on his Chicken Leg.
Harry quickly ate a few Oatmeal, closed his book, and stood up. "I'm going to the Library."
"The Library?" Ron's eyes widened. "You?"
Hermione also looked incredulous.
Strange's voice echoed in Harry's mind, "You're still feeling unwell, why are you going to the Library?"
"Because," Harry replied, "I just couldn't stand it anymore."
What can't you stand?
"I can't stand doing nothing," Harry's voice was flat, almost frighteningly so. "Will is studying so hard for me, he's even skipping classes to study Soul Studies now, and I'm just sitting here waiting to die. This is not what a friend should do."
In his mind, Strange approvingly said, "Very good, Harry, very spirited. So, what are you planning to do?"
"Study hard, "Will said. "Harry once said, 'Knowledge is power.' I don't know how I'll help, but I have to try, if I actually survive—"
He paused.
"--I also need to be a useful person, someone who can fight Death Eaters. I don't want him to go through all that trouble to save someone who can only say thank you and is ultimately useless."
Strange sighed softly. "What do you want to learn? I'll help you, I'll do my best."
"Hmm... Mr. Strange, do you think I could try studying the Soul Studies?"
Strange fell silent.
"Mr. Strange?" Harry asked after waiting for a long time.
"No," Strange finally rejected Harry. "Soul Studies are so unpopular that even Magic schools all over the world don't offer them."
It's precisely because of its difficulty that you're not at that level yet. To put it simply, even if a book like "The Boundary Between Soul and Body" were placed in front of you, you wouldn't be able to understand what it was saying.
You'll only feel more and more desperate as you read on. I suggest you choose something else, like combat Magic.
"By increasing your combat strength, you can go and do some things for the Wizarding World after Will heals you."
"Then... could you please help me choose a Magic book?"
"Don't worry, I will do my best."
"Yes, thank you, Mr. Strange." Harry clenched his fist, feeling a bit more motivated.
Meanwhile, in the Headmaster's Office, the Sorting Hat sighed deeply... because of Harry, he was starting to dislike Dumbledore's way of doing things...
