Would Will believe it? Hell no.

But he did want the Basilisk Fang. That thing could destroy Horcruxes. There were two ways into the Chamber of Secrets: open the passage or dig his way in.

Digging was hardly practical. The chamber lay beneath Hogwarts, but no one knew exactly where. Besides, could anyone really dig through Hogwarts that easily? That option was out.

Opening the passage required Parseltongue. As far as Will knew, only Harry and Voldemort were still alive to speak it. Of course, the Diary could also control someone—or speak for itself in the final stage—to open the passage.

Harry and Voldemort were out of the question. No one knew where the latter was, and as for the former... what Will planned to do was best kept from Harry.

"Sincerity? What do you want?"

"Teach me the Three Unforgivable Curses first." Will sounded as cheerful as if he had said, "Teach me the Levitation Charm."

But the Killing Curse could damage a Horcrux, and he had no intention of teaching Will such magic. They were already wary of each other. Even if Will was only a second-year student, Tom refused to teach him.

Worse, he saw something of himself in Will, which made him more cautious still. That boy is too much like me. How could I not be on guard?

"Then that's not sincere enough."

"That's all I can teach you. Don't push your luck." The writing in the Diary grew increasingly scrawled, as though Tom was furious.
