Goyle and Crabbe looked at Malfoy hanging upside down and remembered the terror of being at Jerry's mercy on the Hogwarts Express. Instead of helping him, they took two steps back.

Harry and the others could hardly believe it either. They had never imagined that Hermione, who usually seemed so quiet, could be this terrifying when she lost her temper.

At Snape's words, Hermione felt a tiny measure of relief. She lowered Malfoy with her Wand and hurried after him.

"Severus, Miss Granger. I didn't expect the two of you to come to my office together!"

Dumbledore looked surprised to see Snape lead Hermione into the Headmaster's Office.

"Tell Headmaster Dumbledore yourself."

Hermione nodded at Snape's words and told Dumbledore what had happened over the holiday.

"Headmaster, Jerry would never break a promise. He still hasn't come back to school. He must be in trouble!"
