After saying goodbye to Catherine at the Orphanage, Jerry took a car to King's Cross Station. He searched the platform for Hermione and Harry but failed to find them.
Then he boarded the train, found an empty compartment, and began feeding Tom.
"Off you go, Tom!"
On the Hogwarts Express, Jerry fed Tom a few nuts for breakfast, then opened the window and tossed him out. Tom had stubbornly refused to leave the train.
"You fat lump, you're not allowed to ride the train. Fly back to Hogwarts, understood?"
"Caw!"
Watching Tom struggle to keep up behind the train, Jerry nodded in satisfaction. At least he was obedient.
Yet Jerry had failed to notice Tom's little scheme.
The instant Jerry's attention wandered, Tom accelerated sharply, swooped onto the roof of the last carriage, and settled down at his leisure.
"Jerry, I've finally found you! There's something I'd like to discuss with you!"
Just as Jerry straightened his clothes and prepared to head to the rear carriages to find Hermione, Malfoy came over with his two lackeys.
"What is it?"
Looking at the awkwardly fidgeting Malfoy, Jerry was baffled. He wanted to "discuss" something? Was that really a line this arrogant young master would say?
"Jerry, we can play in Quidditch matches now that we're in second year. I already wrote to Professor Snape over the summer about joining the Slytherin Quidditch Team, and my father..."
"Stop!" Jerry already understood why Malfoy had come to him. He had no desire to hear the long string of nonsense that would follow.
"Malfoy, I'm not interested in Quidditch!"
"What?" Malfoy stared incredulously at Jerry, who was holding a Charms book. How could any young wizard have no interest in Quidditch?
