It had been a long time since Barnard had met anyone who stood her ground as confidently as Ye Chuqi.

Aiton went pale when he saw Barnard walking with everyone else. If anything happened to the old man, the Mercenary Corps' mission would fail, and his son would lose his chance too.

Wiping away sweat, Aiton started toward them. Even if Barnard refused to ride in the carriage, the caravan had other mounts that could carry him. There was no need for him to tire himself out walking with everyone else.

But Duwak stopped him and said with a chuckle, "It's fine. Yezi knows what she's doing. She won't let anything happen to Lord Barnard, and it won't hurt for everyone to slow down a little. Come to think of it, your young master ought to come out and move around too. It'd be good for his health."

Ever since he was poisoned, young Joshua had hidden away from everyone. On the rare occasions they saw him, they could tell that while the stiffness in his joints hadn't worsened, it hadn't eased either.

"R-really?" Aiton was bewildered. He didn't know what the connection was, but he wanted Joshua to come outside, take a walk, and get some sun too. Joshua refused, though, and there was nothing Aiton could do. "I'll go ask him?"

What Aiton didn't know was that his precious son had been leaning against the carriage window, watching the scenery through a gap in the curtain for quite some time.

Ye Chuqi didn't make Barnard walk for long. Given his condition, a little movement was enough. He had just eaten medicinal porridge, and a short walk that worked up a sweat would do him good.
