But the instant the Formation was complete, Ye Chuqi saw the light that should have faded flare up instead. It was so dazzling she could no longer see what lay ahead, but she instinctively dodged aside. Before she could figure out what had happened, San San's voice sounded in her ear. "Qi Qi, the Formation has been activated."
The Formation had been activated. Its other end was at Camp One, and the people guarding it knew what activation looked like from both sides. For them to trigger it the instant she finished setting up this end, either someone over there had lost their mind, or something terrible had happened.
When Ye Chuqi saw the figures appear on the Formation's foundation as the light faded, battered and some covered in blood, she knew it was serious.
Rita wiped her face and looked up amid the chaos. At the sight of Ye Chuqi's dark eyes, all her terror and despair turned to grief and hurt. "Ye Chuqi..." she choked out. At last, she had found her.
Ye Chuqi did not need to ask to know that things at Camp One had been dire.
The commotion drew the others over too. Allen and his two companions soon joined them. Roan, the Rogue, called out, "Big Sis Qi," then stared at the scene in confusion. They all knew Ye Chuqi had been working here to build a Teleportation Array, but surely she did not need to make people appear out of thin air just to test it?
One look at Rita and the others told them what had happened.
Something had gone wrong at Camp One. Something terrible.
Only four and a half people had come through the Teleportation Array with Rita. Half, because one of them had quite clearly lost the lower half
