At dawn, Lin Yuan and the others headed for the beach. The sun had just leaped above the sea, dyeing sky and water warm gold. The sand left by the receding tide was fine, white, and damp. Waves washed in and drew back, leaving delicate white foam behind, while the sea breeze carried a salty tang and a chill.
It was the girls' first time seeing the beach at dawn, and they stared, spellbound.
Suddenly, a small figure darted out from the group.
Guga's little legs pumped furiously as she raced toward the sea, shouting, "Ocean, ocean, here I come, Guga!"
Before Lin Yuan could react, Guga had reached the shallows. She kicked off hard and plunged headfirst into the sea, sending up a tremendous splash.
"Why did Guga jump into the sea?" Xiao Wu cried.
Before the words had left her mouth, everyone's eyes went wide. Guga was absurdly fast in the water. Her body sliced through the surface, gliding like a fish, while the water behind her split into two white wakes that curled high into the air. She looked exactly like a little speedboat skimming straight across the sea, darting left and right with impossible agility.
Guga suddenly dove, then burst up from beneath the water. Droplets flew everywhere as she traced a glittering arc through the air.
"Woo-hoo! This is so much fun, Guga!"
Guga shouted at the top of her lungs, then fell back into the sea with a splash, throwing up a white wave.
"You never told me... she could swim that well."
Ning Rongrong stood with her mouth open for a long moment before she managed to speak.
"I didn't know either." Lin Yuan looked just as stunned. Then he came to his senses and shouted toward the sea, "Guga, don't swim too
