Background and History
Ling Moxue grew up in Ling Leng’s household after he killed her birth mother. She was neglected and mistreated there; her younger half-sister, Ling Qiuyun, was the only family member who treated her kindly. After the household was slaughtered, Moxue was falsely accused of the killings and imprisoned in Cloudmist City. Ling Leng’s dying request brought Luo Fanchen to her cell 1 3.
Luo initially feared her hostility and the accusations against her. He later discovered that Ling Leng had marked her with the Heavenly Demon Spirit Puppet technique, intending to possess her body when she turned eighteen. The County Magistrate also sought to exploit her. Luo took Moxue out of the city under a Master-Servant Blood Contract and began teaching her cultivation while they evaded pursuit 2 3 5 7.
After reuniting with Qiuyun, Moxue learned that her sister was dying. She entrusted Luo with a cherished dagger when he proposed preserving Qiuyun’s soul in the Soul Banner. The ritual succeeded, leaving Qiuyun alive as the banner’s main spirit; Moxue then devoted herself to growing strong enough to help restore her sister to life 19 20 21.
Luo later voided their original contract and replaced it with terms that gave Moxue another way to regain her freedom if she failed to enter a Dao Sect. In Flying Cloud Market, he bought her the Edgeless Geng Metal Sword manual and arranged to obtain the more suitable Heavenly Heart Art for her future cultivation 17 26 27.
Appearance
Imprisonment left Moxue scarred and malnourished. After sustained care and cultivation, her complexion became fair and her health improved 1 15 22.
- Petite, with almond-shaped eyes, sword-like brows, and a soft oval face 36.
- Black hair and an appearance that combines a gentle look with a notably dashing bearing 34 36.
- Undergoes a rapid growth spurt during her early months of cultivation 22 39.
Personality
Moxue is defiant toward people she distrusts but deeply loyal to those who earn her affection. Her harsh upbringing leaves her sensitive to rejection: she seeks Luo’s praise, worries about burdening him, and fears losing either him or Qiuyun. She also wants to become strong enough to protect them rather than remain dependent on them 19 26 29 44.
In combat, she is far bolder and harsher than Luo. She enjoys fighting, and the intensity of her killing instinct worries him. Outside battle, her concern for Qiuyun remains strong even when jealousy strains their relationship 38 39 48 50.
