Background and Story Role

Yang Xiu summons Hua Xiong with an Advanced Summoning Card. Hua Xiong initially addresses him as “My Lord,” but accepts “Young Lord” when Yang Xiu calls them family because of their shared heritage 1. He accompanies Yang Xiu to the Star Dou Great Forest, guards him during Soul Ring hunts, and spars with him to develop his combat skills 2 3 13.

• Early rescues: Kills a ten-thousand-year Glory Lizard with one saber stroke, saving Hong Tian, Hong Wu, and Liu Yuan. Later kills Spirit Hall’s Liu Lin and the betrayer Blood Knife during the attack on Bai Kai’s family 2 14.
• Sect service: Receives command of the Flying Bear Army. He teaches Zhao Wuji Hundred-Mile Slash, which Zhao uses to win a difficult Secret Realm fight 10 11.
• Zhu Zhuqing’s rescue: Secretly protects her from assassins while Yang Xiu deals with their organization, then prevents attackers from escaping when Yang Xiu joins the fight 16 17.
• Legacy Tower: Enters with Zhao Wuji but earns no legacy, including the one Yang Xiu suggested he seek from Lu Bu. Entry is permitted only once, leaving Hua Xiong disappointed 20 21.
• Duel with Bone Douluo: Defeats Gu Rong without using Hundred-Mile Slash, awakening Demon General. Their fierce match ends in an unlikely friendship 28 29.

Appearance

Hua Xiong has a broad, powerful build and stands almost a head taller than Zhao Wuji 9.

• He is seen wearing a Flame Emperor Sect suit during a visit to Shrek Academy 23.
• His Demon Bear Martial Soul allows him to transform through Martial Soul Avatar 4.

Personality

Initially proud and reserved, Hua Xiong becomes more playful after growing close to Zhao Wuji. He enjoys going out with Yang Xiu and argues that adventure might help him break through when cultivation no longer seems productive 2 12 15. He remains protective of Yang Xiu, but takes Yang Xiu’s warning against underestimating unfamiliar attacks seriously and returns to training 4.

Demon Bear Martial Soul

Hua Xiong’s Martial Soul favors defense; he can use Martial Soul Avatar to take on its form 4 29.

• Uses the Avatar to withstand Yang Xiu’s Nine Heavens Thunderclap, an attack he discovers he cannot dodge 4.
• His Soul Ring configuration at level 95 is two yellow, two purple, and five black rings 29.

Hundred-Mile Slash

A powerful self-created combat technique that Hua Xiong also teaches Zhao Wuji 11 28.

• Kills the level-82 Soul Douluo Liu Lin with it during an ambush 14.
• Does not need it to defeat Bone Douluo 29.

Demon General

After defeating Bone Douluo, Hua Xiong awakens a Trait that plants a Demon Seed within him and enables a Demon Form 29.

• Greatly increases Soul Power—by approximately one or two levels while active—and strengthens defense 29.
• Reduces incoming damage by 40% and grants immunity to negative effects 29.

Equipment and Forces

• Guan Gong Saber — Used to kill the Glory Lizard without releasing his Soul Rings 2.
• Flying Bear Army — A puppet force Yang Xiu selects for Hua Xiong’s command 10.

Relationships

• Yang Xiu — His summoner and sect master. Hua Xiong is absolutely loyal to him, serves as his protector, and accepts his advice about training and caution 1 4 13.
• Zhao Wuji — A close friend who calls him “Big Brother” and learns Hundred-Mile Slash from him. Hua Xiong visits him frequently at Shrek Academy 11 15 23.
• Gu Rong — His defeated opponent. Hua Xiong jokingly insists on being the “big brother,” and Gu Rong reluctantly plays along rather than risk another fight 29.
