When Samui got home, a delicious aroma greeted her as soon as she opened the door. Kurotsuchi was cooking; there was no need to guess.
Samui finally understood the girl. Kurotsuchi had a sharp tongue but a soft heart.
She tiptoed into the kitchen and found Kurotsuchi's small figure bustling about.
Feeling mischievous, Samui crept up behind Kurotsuchi and suddenly clapped a hand on her shoulder.
Kurotsuchi nearly jumped out of her skin. In one swift motion, she raised the ladle like a shuriken to defend herself, her face set in a fierce glare.
Samui stood there grinning in triumph.
When Kurotsuchi saw her, her expression darkened at once. "Why didn't I sense you at all?"
Samui had expected a more interesting question. Instead, Kurotsuchi had asked that. She gave her a matter-of-fact look. "I'm a jonin, after all!"
Frustration filled Kurotsuchi's face. She turned back to the pot and stirred the soup. "Tch. So that's the gap between me and a jonin!"
Her voice was thick with frustration. She clearly wasn't happy with her current strength.
For a moment, Samui didn't know what to say. After a long pause, she finally managed to get a sentence out.
"Come on, training takes time. Don't rush it!" She gave Kurotsuchi's shoulder a pat, trying to look cool.
Kurotsuchi said nothing, but her expression softened. She shrugged, trying to dislodge Samui's hand.
"Dinner's almost ready!" Kurotsuchi jerked her chin toward the table, telling Samui she could sit down.
Samui took the hint. Once she had everything set out, she sat at the table and waited for Kurotsuchi to bring over the food.
Only then did she remember what she had meant to ask. "Where's Lord Hokage? Shouldn't we wait for him?"
