Hinata had thought they would not run into anyone else that day. Yet less than two hours after setting out, they came face-to-face with another team—the one she least wanted to see.

The three blocking their path were none other than Kankuro, Temari, and Gaara of Sunagakure. Hinata and the others had rested and recovered a little after their earlier fight, but they were nowhere near full strength. Running into Gaara now was rotten luck.

Hinata stopped and kept her distance from Kankuro and the others, her face wary. Kankuro and Temari, by contrast, looked perfectly friendly.

"So you made it here too. We were just wondering who might show up!" Temari's playful expression faded. "Now that we've met, we might as well see how this goes!"

Though they had issued a challenge, Temari and Kankuro politely waited for Sakura and the others to answer. Hinata bit her lip. None of them had fully recovered, and fighting now would be far too risky.

She was about to say something when Gaara suddenly moved. At some point, the large gourd on his back had opened. Wisps of sand gathered and shifted in the air, finally taking the shape of shuriken.

Gaara opened his eyes a little wider, and the shuriken shot toward Hinata and the others. They moved so fast that only streaks remained.
