At that thought, a smile spread across Mitokado Homura's face.
"Come now, Hiruzen. Wasn't Kushina Uzumaki originally chosen to be the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki? She prepared for it for years, and you still replaced her. Why can't you replace Minato Namikaze too?"
With that, Mitokado Homura tried to drive a wedge between them.
He assumed Kushina Uzumaki couldn't have been happy when she lost her place as the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki.
Why not seize on that and sow discord between the two of them?
Unfortunately, Mitokado Homura didn't know that Kushina wanted nothing more than to avoid becoming the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki.
If the Nine-Tails was sealed inside Minato Namikaze, her main quest would probably be complete, and she could finally relax.
So Mitokado Homura's ploy had no effect at all.
Minato Namikaze, however, had only just learned the news, and he immediately felt guilty toward Kushina.
"I'm sorry, Kushina. I didn't know you..." Minato Namikaze hurried to apologize.
"It's fine, Minato. I never wanted to be the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki anyway. I don't want a monster inside me," Kushina said with a smile.
"Oh... right." Minato gave an awkward smile. Seeing that Kushina wasn't angry, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Mitokado Homura's eye twitched. He hadn't expected the two of them to be so close, or for his words to have no effect on them.
So he pressed on. "Minato Namikaze is still young. His mind isn't strong enough yet. I don't think he's suitable. Why not let me become the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki instead?"
