The rest of the journey passed without much trouble.
Once they reached the great plain, there were far fewer wild beasts around.
The rough, muddy ground was gone. Paths worn by human feet had even appeared.
An hour later, the first thing the group saw upon reaching Diamond City was a bustling market.
Three rather crude streets had been built near the southern edge of a vast stretch of ruins.
The rubble on the ground had never been cleared. Instead, rows of wooden houses had been built right on top of it.
The houses were made from rough materials, but they had a wild style, and some showed clever craftsmanship.
They would never withstand a major disaster, but they kept out the wind and rain well enough.
Even from a distance, harsh gunshots rang out again and again from the streets ahead and the nearby ruins.
Sometimes the shots sounded close, sometimes far away; sometimes they came in bursts, sometimes only a few at a time.
Eventually, they grew sporadic, then faded altogether.
"What a lively place!" the Evil God sighed at the sight.
"My lord, are you planning to stay here tonight?" Geer asked.
"If you need somewhere to rest, I recommend the Ditai Gang's inn."
"The Ditai Gang is one of the bigger powers here. The inn is their main business, with special services too. It's very safe."
Su Yi nodded and looked at the Evil God.
The Evil God checked the quest directions. "It should be this way."
"Let's go take a look first," Su Yi said.
Rather than enter the town, the group headed left and pushed deeper into the city ruins.
Diamond City covered a vast area. Though its walls had crumbled into broken remnants,
their massive foundations still hinted at the city's former glory.
