Ch. 301Is Your Metagross Really That Tough?
Plot points and events
- Xu Mu and Kale finally settle their rivalry in a one-on-one Pokémon battle: Xu Mu sends out Greninja, while Kale chooses Metagross.
- Both Pokémon have grown enormously since their earlier fight. Greninja can reach peak Champion strength through Battle Bond, while Kale’s late-Champion Metagross can reach the same level through Mega Evolution.
- The battle begins with Metagross’s Meteor Mash. Greninja uses his newly acquired Sharingan to read Metagross’s movements and energy, then copies its attacks—including Meteor Mash, Thunder Punch, Fire Punch, and Ice Punch.
- After Metagross becomes frustrated, Xu Mu tells Greninja to finish the fight. Greninja creates Shadow Clones and launches his signature Super Large Ball Water Spiral Shuriken.
- Kale counters with Gyro Ball, but Greninja’s speed, clones, and barrage of shuriken overwhelm Metagross.
Character development
- Xu Mu faces the rival who once defeated him with calm confidence, showing how far he and Greninja have come. He chooses a fair one-on-one match rather than relying on his Legendary Pokémon.
- Greninja is eager to settle the score and reveals the power of his new Sharingan, giving him an edge through observation and imitation.
- Kale enters determined and confident in Metagross, but is shocked when Greninja copies its moves and gains the upper hand.
Themes
- Growth and redemption: The rematch reverses the earlier defeat, demonstrating the progress Xu Mu and Greninja have made.
- Preparation versus surprise: Kale knows Greninja’s signature attack and counters it sensibly, but cannot account for Greninja’s new ability.
- Fairness and restraint: Xu Mu deliberately keeps the battle to one Pokémon each, avoiding the overwhelming advantage of his Legendary team.
Character interactions
- Xu Mu and Greninja recall their earlier loss and share a renewed determination to win.
- Kale and Metagross fight as an experienced, coordinated pair, with Kale quickly selecting a counter to Greninja’s signature move.
- Greninja’s copied attacks stun both Kale and Metagross, while Xu Mu’s brief silence and smile underline the surprise of Greninja’s Sharingan debut.
