Xu Feng looked out at the dense carpet of dead snakes.
To be honest, the thought of going among them made his skin crawl.
It wasn't that Xu Feng feared a ghost was hiding in there.
He was more worried that some of those snakes weren't quite dead and would bite him the moment he stepped inside!
That was far scarier than any ghost!
Ghosts he could handle. A mass of snakes? Xu Feng had no answer for that!
He needed some practical protection first.
Xu Feng said, "All right. I'm fine."
His master said, "In a moment, take off your Ritual Robe, roll it up, and wrap it in your clothes. Don't wear it.
And go a little farther away before you do anything with your Mirror. Don't let these people see it.
The sharkskin on that Knife draws too much attention.
We'll replace it later."
Xu Feng said, "All right! I'll get ready."
His master said, "No rush. Wait until dark, then go over with a torch. I've prepared leg guards for you. Wear them, even if they're hot.
Don't let a snake bite you!"
Xu Feng said, "All right!"
He still didn't know what sort of ghost might be in there. For now, even looking through the Owl Button, Xu Feng couldn't see anything sinister.
Night might be another matter.
Something else troubled Xu Feng: if he went over there tonight, would that shadow suddenly appear too? If it did, they would have a real problem!
Seeing his expression, his master assumed he was worried about the task. "You needn't worry. You're only going over there to put on a show. We checked during the day. Snakes may be associated with yin, but for now, they haven't attracted anything sinister.
Give it enough time, though, and that
