Annan wanted to snap, "Your father thinks one scroll will make me forget what he did to me?" But the Olmedo Ray could easily wipe out an elite squad of mercenaries made up of men like Faster.
Without a word, Annan laid an unfinished book over the Dragonhide Scroll. "What about Martin?"
He added another item to the list of things he had planned to do once he got out of the dungeon: lock Martin in the basement.
Olmedo noticed the little gesture and pressed his lips together. "You can come get him whenever you like. No one will stop you again."
No one ever stopped me. Martin just keeps running off...
Either way, accepting the scroll meant Annan had made peace with Augusta Olmedo.
For now.
"Get some rest. I need to return to the City Lord's Mansion and get back to work."
Olmedo rose from his seat. Francois, who had just picked up his coffee, stood as well.
Annan had rested well in the dungeon, but he did have some personal matters to handle. He had Abby see them out, then turned to the letters the Fire Crow had brought.
The maid had removed the letters, and the Fire Crow had flown back to Ossulund Territory and returned with more. There were four in all.
The first two were ordinary letters about everyday matters. But Annan had been in the dungeon and unable to reply, so the third demanded to know where he had gone. The fourth was full of worry and unease.
Just then, the Fire Crow appeared outside the window with a fifth letter.
[I heard our Eldest Sister shut herself in her room. I could hear her crying through the door... Write back soon. I'll never scold you again...]
The letters gradually quieted Annan's joy
