Spending one million Gold Narls on a sponsorship that made no sense was clearly not worth it.

Spending three million Gold Narls? What kind of fool would do that?

Spending five million Gold Narls... just what sort of competition was this?

The Wealth Church had deep pockets, after all. To them, any problem money could solve was no problem at all.

Besides, spending money on the Holy Son was just moving it from one pocket to another.

Annan returned to the City Lord's Mansion and walked past the office on the second floor.

Olmedo glanced up, then went back to her work. A few seconds later, Annan walked past again.

When he passed for the third time, Olmedo seemed to sigh. She looked up from her mountain of work. "What is it?"

"You won't even call me Lord Annan."

"Lo-o-ord Annan," Olmedo drawled, forced to play along with his childish game. "What do you want?"

"Are you busy?" Annan asked, peeking through the doorway when he knew full well she was.

Olmedo laughed in exasperation. "Not at all. I've got plenty of time to chat with you."

"It's nothing important. I just got my hands on a few more Medium Arcane Cores. For free."

Olmedo barely reacted. She still had work to do, so she lowered her head and said offhandedly, "Then we'll need to keep up appearances."

"Why?"

"The Gold Depository has only just started operating. If we spend money too freely, people will think you've been dipping into its deposits."

"Oh, that's my fault."

Annan made a show of smacking his forehead. "I can't believe I forgot to tell you something so important."

Olmedo said nothing. The only sound in the Magic Lamp-lit office was the rustle of documents as she signed them.

Annan broke the awkward silence.
