The incubus darted out and slipped into the Rat Swarm scurrying across the battlefield.
She ducked into a patch of ruins, turned herself into a human where the Ratfolk couldn't see her, then stumbled back out.
The Ratfolk Priest was surrounded by Elite Rats. If she approached as a mere Slave Rat, some hungry Champion Rat might grab her and eat her.
A human suddenly appeared amid the Ratfolk streaming across the battlefield. With shrill cries, they pounced.
"You've caught me! I'm your prisoner now. Are you going to take me to the Ratfolk Priest for a reward? I refuse to be your pawn in exchange for a mountain of food!" the incubus shouted in the Ratfolk Language, steering them toward the idea.
She had no choice. If she didn't spell it out, these rats would never think of it themselves.
A human soldier would already have been wondering: Where the hell did this thing come from? How does it speak the Common Tongue? Why does it want to see a noble? Is it a damn spy?
But all the Slave Rats thought was, This Human Thing says he's worth a lot. He'll get me a reward. I have to take him to Lord Greyfur Rat. So they marched the incubus toward the Warehouse.
A squad of Elite Rats on the perimeter stopped them and eyed the Human Thing in their custody.
"Boss... I—we caught a human cap... cap... cabbage. Lord Greyfur Rat should give us food."
What the hell was that supposed to mean?
The incubus winced. Afraid the Elite Rats hadn't understood, she deliberately raised her voice, still speaking the Ratfolk Language. "Are you going to take me before the Ratfolk Priest so it can question me for information about the humans?"
The Elite Rats' Red-Eye eyes lit
