In Beludona's eyes, Philos looked ready to betray Annan and the others at any moment. Annan, meanwhile, seemed utterly unwary and was still asking about the whirlpool.
"What were you doing just now?" For some reason, Annan couldn't let it go.
As a sorcerer who relied on instinct, he was rarely wrong.
"A sacrificial ritual. The lake of fel energy forms a passage to other worlds. We mark the offerings with the Rat God's mark, send them to those worlds, and call upon the Rat God."
So it really does lead to other worlds?
Annan thought of the gate that had brought him to the Allen Continent, and the Dying World that had turned the wizards' grand Great Expedition into a terrified retreat indoors...
Let's hope the Ratfolk don't bring something strange to the Allen Continent.
But he had no way to stop them. If he told them it would bring disaster to the world, the Ratfolk would surely say, "Wouldn't that be even better?"
"The Legion will be formed, and I'll become the Rat King's priest," Philos continued.
"Will you recruit it yourselves, or will the clan provide the troops? Do you need help?"
Philos shook her head. "The McKennan Clan will give us a complete Legion. Plenty of eyes will be on us then. Is there anything you want me to tell the Rat King now?"
Annan glanced at the unconscious Rus. "Once we leave, tell High Priest McKennan the truth about the Red-Eye Clan's destruction."
He hadn't forgotten his original goal: to drive a wedge between the demons and the McKennan Ratfolk.
"Anything else?"
This was when he ought to deliver some grand speech about ideals and strengthen the Rat King's resolve. But Annan was tired of that, so he said:
"Tell the Rat King that Free
