Biross stood in a cell that was a little too low for her, with three things she had taken from the Obsidian Mansion laid out before her: the Flame Whip Lady Lilith had given her, the Northern Frontier map that had hung on the wall, and a pen.
Going from the Obsidian Mansion to a cramped cell had changed nothing about the Six-Armed Snake Demon.
Nor did the approaching footsteps draw her gaze from the map.
The jailer carrying an oil lamp stopped outside her cell.
"You'll never guess how Annan plans to save you." The jailer spoke in the Succubus Queen's voice.
"He isn't breaking me out?" Biross asked without looking back.
"If it were that dull, I wouldn't have come to tell you." The Succubus Queen stood outside the cell. "He's turned himself into a Ratfolk and plans to pose as one of those rats to take you away."
The Six-Armed Snake Demon saw a deeper purpose. "He wants to set us against the Ratfolk?"
The Succubus Queen looked ready to enjoy the show, wholly unconcerned that Annan was making trouble on her turf. "Your little Sorcerer is still too green. If it were me, I'd let the McKennan Ratfolk take you away, then disguise myself as a Demon and attack their party. I'd deliberately let one escape to carry the news home, then sit back and watch the Demons and Ratfolk tear each
