"Never trust succubi. They're creatures ruled by desire," Beludona warned Annan before returning to Hell.
"Are there exceptions?"
"No... At least, I've never heard of one."
"What about the Succubus Queen?"
"Especially the Succubus Queen."
Beludona said that even setting aside devils' prejudice against demons, demons were still vile creatures driven by instinct and interested only in pleasing themselves.
"I know a succubus named Catherine. She's not like the others—" Annan fell silent. Even Catherine had nearly drained him dry... if the Dean hadn't arrived.
Beludona didn't press him. "I was planning to introduce two of my subordinates to you..."
She told him the stories of Frigga and Alaina, who had pledged themselves to her.
Annan was more interested in their succubus connections than in the two Apprentice Devils. That reminded him of something. "The succubi are doing well, but those three incubi... they don't seem willing to take clients. Any idea why?"
"What brought this on?"
"Ingrid says—" Annan began, first making his own innocence clear. "The incubi have stopped wanting to take clients. They keep going out to admire the beach, the sunrise, or the sunset. Some have even bought property in Free City..."
It sounded harmless enough. The problem was that they were creatures of the Abyss, and none of it was very succubus-like.
"Incubi descend from fallen celestial beings and a handful of powerful incubi... They don't share the succubi's greed or insatiable appetites. As beings of order, they uphold it of their own accord while pursuing the things they love..."
Beludona made incubi sound like law-abiding residents. Annan asked her to put it in human terms, and she finally said, "Incubi aren't as... indiscriminate as succubi. They prefer powerful targets, or ones who interest them."
"If you consider them negligent, I can discipline them."
