Annan told Idelia to add the Succubus to tomorrow's commendation list and have Olmedo keep a close eye on those hostile yellow lights.

The satisfied Succubus left. Annan ordered Luoxi to lead the Guards on patrol through the Street all night, but as a precaution, he sent Sven and the Cavalry along with him.

Few veterans remained from the campaigns Annan had fought from Star-Moon Bay to Free City. Commanders were even more precious.

"Wasn't everything taken care of? What's the point of this?" Leila asked, puzzled.

Annan asked her, "Why did I send them out on patrol?"

"To protect the people of Free City?"

"To make the people of Free City feel protected."

Leila wanted to vent, but Eldest Sister and Olmedo both looked as though they agreed with him.

"Despicable politicians," she snapped.

Annan pointed at Leila and tattled, "Eldest Sister, Leila called you names!"

"I did not!"

"You did! You even called Eldest Sister despicable!"

"I was only talking about you!"

Annan had already moved beside Idelia. "Eldest Sister, Leila's picking on me."

Leila stared at Annan as though she were seeing him for the first time. Then her black eyes, so like his own, flashed dangerously. "Have you forgotten I'm your sister...?"

"I've just been spending my time... searching for my path as a Mage!"

"You mean fishing?"

"Dean Breichim approved of it!"

Once, when Lilith had asked the Dean why Leila liked fishing, Leila had given the same answer, and the Dean had approved.

"What path does a Mage Apprentice need to search for?"
