Whoosh—
An arrow streaked past and buried itself in a Ratfolk's skull.
Seeing the Elves cut in, Femi stopped waiting. He raised his Magic Musket, aimed at the Ratfolk on the slope, and pulled the trigger.
"Fire!"
Deafening gunfire echoed over Low Hill, announcing their arrival to everything for miles around.
The Elves, who loved quiet and hated noise, frowned and withdrew from the battlefield.
They knew Magic Muskets were loud, but they hadn't expected so many firing together to be this noisy...
Leaving the front line to the humans, they moved to the rear to clear out the Ratfolk circling around both flanks.
Annan glanced their way, then turned his attention to the Soldier.
In their first battle, many of the recruits trembled despite themselves and fumbled with their weapons. One Soldier had somehow picked up his gun backward. Just as he was about to pull the trigger, a patrolling Centurion kicked him to the ground.
The bad news was that no amount of training could prevent mishaps when soldiers lacked real combat experience...
The good news was that they had time to turn the recruits into hardened veterans.
Magic Muskets were practically the Slave Rats' natural enemy. With the forces evenly matched, the Ratfolk couldn't get within fifty yards of the defensive line.
A clear boundary divided the battlefield.
On one side, gun smoke rose. On the other, Ratfolk corpses littered the ground.
A few minutes later, the gunfire began to die down. The Ratfolk in the surrounding grasslands had been cleared out for now.
The Hellfire Legion hadn't used its Cannons or suffered a single casualty. It was a complete victory.
All in all, Annan was fairly satisfied. Even the only two wounded had been injured indirectly... One had strained his back from nervousness while carrying ammunition.
