Shen Bing watched anxiously as the progress bar finally reached the end.
A window popped up: Novice Teleportation Talisman analyzed successfully. Quantum Transmission Technology obtained.
Shen Bing felt as though Heaven Realm Lei had struck him.
What happened to the immortal realm? Analyzing the talisman should at least have given him a way to make teleportation talismans. He could even have accepted a spell like instant movement. But what the hell was Quantum Transmission Technology?
Shen Bing was a student at the University of Electronic Science and Technology, and he studied computer networking. He was no stranger to the word "quantum." Huaxia had even launched a quantum satellite.
Quantum technology was genuine black tech, the direction of humanity's future development. But didn't it seem out of place in the immortal realm?
Quantum Transmission Technology had already seen breakthroughs in certain laboratories, but it was nowhere near a mature technology.
Shen Bing rubbed his stomach. It hurt a little... and so did his liver.
Once the pain passed, all that remained was excitement. The thought of this Quantum Teleportation Technology made his heart race. If he could actually bring it into the real world...
Just thinking about the teleportation technology in the sci-fi blockbuster Star Trek set Shen Bing's heart pounding.
He had the Gate to the Immortal Realm, but cultivating immortality still seemed a distant hope. Having some super-advanced black tech up his sleeve would do nicely.
To Shen Bing's delight, the Novice Teleportation Talisman was still sitting safely in the mysterious slot. A multicolored orb of light had appeared beside it.
He dragged the talisman back into his Inventory, then clicked the orb. A small window popped up.
"Transmit Quantum Teleportation Technology? Note: The first technology transmission is free."
He clicked confirm.
Suddenly, a boom went off inside Shen Bing's head. It felt as though countless things had been crammed into his mind, making it ache with pressure.
"Hiss..." Shen Bing sucked in a breath and fought to suppress the pain.
Curiosity really does kill the cat!
The pain did not disappear completely until four or five minutes later. Only then did he realize sweat had soaked through the back of his shirt.
"Damn it! Why did it go straight into my brain?" Shen Bing complained inwardly. The Quantum Transmission Technology extracted from one little teleportation talisman had left him in this state. If he analyzed the Monkey King's seventy-two transformations next time, wouldn't it kill him outright?
After the storm comes a rainbow, right?
Shen Bing began taking stock of what he had gained. His head now contained Quantum Teleportation Technology. It had to be the most valuable brain in the world.
The next second, he realized he had been too optimistic.
There was indeed a great deal of new knowledge in his head, but the strings of formulas, symbols, and explanations might as well have been written in an alien language.
He recognized a few of the symbols. After all, he attended a prestigious university and had survived high school, the period when people packed the most knowledge into their heads. He still vaguely remembered some constants and variables from Microscopic Physics, but most of it was beyond him.
"What am I supposed to do with this?"
Shen Bing felt as though someone had put a pig in front of him when he had no idea how to butcher it.
Having something within sight but beyond his reach was agonizing.
The knowledge included a simple introduction to Quantum Teleportation Technology. A specialized device broke an object down into quantum particles, used quantum long-distance effects to transmit the properties of the original particles, then reassembled them into the object at the destination.
But the technology he had obtained was a future technology built on scientific foundations humanity had already established. Shen Bing would have to learn those foundations himself.
Shen Bing knew his limits. Even with all this information, he would probably be ready for the grave by the time he managed to develop Quantum Teleportation Technology.
Suddenly, he remembered an item in the Treasure Pavilion: the Aperture-Opening Pill.
It was a miraculous pill said to unlock fifty percent of a person's brain capacity. Supposedly, even Einstein had used only around seven percent of his. Unlocking fifty percent of his entire brain would be extraordinary.
Would learning the quantum physics humanity had already mastered become much easier then?
Shen Bing excitedly opened the Treasure Pavilion and spent one Immortal Jade to buy the Aperture-Opening Pill.
After the purchase, its price in the Treasure Pavilion changed to ten thousand Immortal Jade. The sight was painful.
The Aperture-Opening Pill sat in his Inventory like a pearl, though it seemed far more vibrant.
"I wonder if I can analyze the Aperture-Opening Pill. If I can, that would be incredible. I could mass-produce geniuses, and our people could sweep every Nobel Prize." Shen Bing could not help feeling smug. He thought there was a good chance it would work.
He dragged it in and started the analysis...
"Sorry, this item contains technology beyond the system's current level and cannot be fully analyzed. Forcing the analysis has a small chance of yielding incomplete technology."
Three buttons appeared below: Force Analysis, Cancel, and View Level-Up Requirements.
Shen Bing checked the level-up requirements first.
"Current Gate to the Immortal Realm level: 1. Complete five tasks to reach level 2."
Those requirements...
Shen Bing had a bad feeling. Five tasks did not sound like many, but it depended on the tasks. If they were ordinary game quests, he would do fifty or five hundred without blinking.
But the Gate to the Immortal Realm led to the real immortal realm. Shen Bing could imagine how miserable doing errands for immortals might be.
Life was like being screwed over: if he couldn't fight back, he might as well enjoy it.
Shen Bing was not going to wait until the Gate to the Immortal Realm leveled up before analyzing the Aperture-Opening Pill. Who knew whether level 2 would even let him analyze it? An item this extraordinary was worth a forced attempt. If he got lucky, he would gain something, and the pill would not disappear anyway.
"Force analysis!"
"Forced analysis of the Aperture-Opening Pill successful. Basic Animal Intelligence Potion formula obtained. Can increase an animal's intelligence to a certain extent. Warning: Cannot be used by mortals."
Shen Bing's mouth twitched. So much for my plan to produce genius scientists. No matter how smart an animal gets, it can't become a scientist!
"Oh well. It's better than a failed analysis."
But he immediately regretted it. How great would it have been if he had analyzed the Aperture-Opening Pill first instead of that blasted Novice Teleportation Talisman?
There was no cure for regret, though. He could only accept the result.
Shen Bing did not transmit the Aperture-Opening Pill right away. He did not dare take it yet, either.
Simply transmitting the technology had made his head hurt so badly he had almost died. Who could say what would happen when he swallowed the pill? Shen Bing did not want his obnoxious roommates hauling him to the hospital.
Shen Bing then looked at the nine Immortal Jade remaining in the shop interface and felt another pang. If only I could top up my balance...
"Damn! There's actually a top-up button?" Shen Bing felt as though he had found the key to Pandora's box.
Almost without thinking, Shen Bing tapped it.
"Insufficient funds in your account. Top-up rate: 1 Immortal Jade per 1 million Huaxia yuan." The system notice, highlighted in bright red, nearly blinded Shen Bing. It also killed any hope he had of buying another Aperture-Opening Pill. What a rip-off.
But he soon cheered himself up. He had just spent the equivalent of ten billion yuan! Who else could be so extravagant? Throwing money around was nothing compared to tossing away dozens of tons of gold. Even if it had been discounted gold.
He also realized how poor he was. To make the most of the Gate to the Immortal Realm, he needed to earn a lot of money so he could buy more items from it. Without money, forget the Aperture-Opening Pill—he could not even buy a teleportation talisman. Those cost ten Immortal Jade each, or ten million yuan.
"Where am I supposed to get that kind of money..." Shen Bing was deeply troubled. His family was reasonably well-off, but his unreliable parents gave him only about a thousand yuan a month for living expenses. With prices as they were, that was barely enough.
The technologies analyzed by the Gate to the Immortal Realm were impressively advanced. Unfortunately, his knowledge and wallet were much more modest.
Take Quantum Teleportation Technology. Even setting aside whether he could build a device from the instructions, merely letting word get out that he possessed the technology would probably bring him serious trouble.
As for the Basic Animal Intelligence Potion, it did not seem particularly useful either.
"I'd better find a place to rent off campus. Otherwise, I really won't dare take the Aperture-Opening Pill."
Shen Bing was a man of action. He immediately went online to look for rentals.
He still had a little over four thousand yuan in his account: his living expenses for the semester, plus a little he had saved. But with that amount, he could only afford a single room or a shared apartment. Anything more in Rongcheng would last him a month or so at best.
After making one call after another, he finally found a suitable place in Fengze Residential Community, more than ten kilometers from the university. It was a three-bedroom apartment, but the landlord was willing to rent out the rooms separately.
