Looking at the cluster of Golden Light in his hand, Chen Cuo could vaguely make out blurred talismanic script within it. Cracks ran across every part; it was clearly a fragment of some larger character.
"This is a Talisman Fragment!"
Chen Cuo narrowed his eyes and extended his divine sense toward it.
In an instant, the sight of a river entered his mind, and he could faintly hear wave after wave rolling by.
Chen Cuo suddenly felt that, with a single thought, he could control everything on and in that river as he pleased. Not just the fish and shrimp, but even the sand on the riverbed and the wind and clouds above it would move at his command.
A sense of absolute freedom, of holding great power in his hands, kept growing in his heart.
Soon, though, the river scene gradually faded, leaving only a thirty-mile stretch.
Then fragments of past memories surfaced one after another, showing the previous lord of that stretch wielding his divine authority.
Chen Cuo promptly withdrew his divine sense.
"Divine Authority truly is tempting. The moment you obtain it, you can rule a stretch of river and do as you please. But that Dragon King was executed for breaking the rules, so why can this Carp Demon devour living people while holding the station of a River God and suffer no punishment? When I was at the Eastern Observatory, the Black and White Elders mentioned that the Heavenly Palace had existed for only a few decades. Could that have something to do with it?"
Chen Cuo could not fathom the reason and had no intention of straining over it. More important to him now was determining whether this Talisman Fragment was connected to the Temple Dragon King.
